U of T Magazine by Martha Hall Findlay Read Full Article "...This is a problem. We need to be at the table when policies that affect us and our society are developed, prioritized, debated and implemented. I’m not one who believes we need more women there because we are somehow “better” at the conduct of politics, or because we’re somehow more co-operative or consensus-driven than men. I’m not even sure that’s true. Women need to be equally represented, quite simply, because we’re equally affected – and by being there, we’ll get decisions that better reflect the needs of all of society, not just half. It’s frustratingly like the classic 1950s scenario, with the husband making all of the financial and other significant decisions for not only himself but also his wife and family. Most of us would no longer accept that in our personal lives – why should we accept it for our country?..."

CTVCalgary.ca May 1, 2010 "I would suggest that more and more Albertans are seeing that, Stephen Harper in particular who ran on accountability and transparency, all sounded good, but has operated and governed completely the opposite way, and there really is an issue. I know there are a lot of people who are frustrated with the current Harper government and our job as Liberals is to really reinforce that we are that logical alternative," commented Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay... "...Meanwhile, Liberal MPs including Toronto’s Martha Hall Findlay and Montreal’s Justin Trudeau were also using wheelchairs along with Defence Minister Peter MacKay. Around noon the MPs participated in wheelchair races with some of the Winter Paralympians and Steve Daniel, a veteran of Bosnia, Croatia and Afghanistan who received a spinal cord injury from a parachute jump. This is the 65th anniversary of the Canadian Paraplegic Association, which was created by veterans returning from WW 11 realizing that some of the injured needed access to rehabilitation."

THE OTTAWA CITIZEN APRIL 14, 2010 BY KATHRYN MAY "The Commons government operations committee decided Wednesday to investigate the management of federal funding for renewable energy that former MP Rahim Jaffer and his business partners wanted to tap into for green projects. The committee passed a motion and witness list that includes Jaffer, his wife, Helena Guergis, his business partner Patrick Glemaud, and associate Nazim Gillani, who headed International Strategic Investments. The probe, which begins immediately, came out of two motions by Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay, and met little resistance from Conservative MPs who abstained or voted for the motions. The witness lineup also includes cabinet ministers Natural Resources Minister Christian Paradis and Labor Minister Lisa Raitt..." Read Full Article.

THE MARK APRIL 28, 2010 By Martha Hall Findlay "My recommendation isn't earth-shattering, sexy, particularly controversial, or even new. We've heard it before, but it has proven to be really tough to do. We need to invest rather than just spend. We need to prevent problems, before we need to fix them. Economically and fiscally, it's better and cheaper over the long run..." Read Full Article.

By Julian Beltrame THE CANADIAN PRESS March 22, 2010 "...Liberal Martha Hall Findlay asked Day to pledge that $8.7 million of this year's $74.5-million PMO budget going for the organization of the G8 and G20 international meetings in June will be removed from next year's allotment. Day said all extraordinary spending items would need to be justified..." Read Full Article.

BY DAVID AKIN CANWEST NEWS SERVICE MARCH 22, 2010 Read Full Article. "...'We are very concerned about the potential padding of certain budgets before a freeze so that there's a benefit there after a freeze,' said Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay. The government has vowed that most government departments will have their operating budgets frozen for the 2010-2011 budget year and that freeze will stay in place likely through to 2015. In response to Hall Findlay, Day told the committee that government departments, like the Privy Council, would not get the one-time funding they need for projects this year in next year's budget. That, though, seemed to contradict what he later told reporters, that the government is expecting to spend billions next year for unique "concerns and pressures" presented to it by a variety of government departments....

OTTAWA CITIZEN MARCH 25, 2010 BY KATHRYN MAY "Auditor General Sheila Fraser has been called in to audit the Harper government's still-controversial 2007 deal to sell seven of the federal government's prime office buildings in five cities. The Commons government operations has asked Fraser to audit the $1.4 billion sale of the office complexes to Larco Investments Ltd., particularly the business case made to justify the deal. The auditor general is not compelled to take on any investigations or audits requested by committees. Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay, who proposed the motion calling for the audit, said the committee should find out if the deal will save the government money or not, especially when the government is examining whether to dispose of further assets. "We want to make sure that when the government sells assets, whether outright or as sales leaseback, that it is doing so in a financially prudent manner," she said...." Read Full Article.

By Bruce Cheadle (CP) Jan 6, 2010 Read Full Article '...Martha Hall-Findlay, the Liberal critic for public works and government services, questioned Harper spending almost $50,000 "to woo a group of notable George Bush advisers and senior, influential Republican media moguls and columnists." But the Liberal was equally struck by the fact information on Canada's prime minister has only emerged via American agencies. "Isn't it ironic that we are able to get more information about our own Canadian Prime Minister's Office from the U.S. information system, than we are able to today, here, under this Conservative government," said Hall-Findlay...'

Macleans.ca Jan 14, 2010 by Mitchel Raphael Battle of the IQs
In late January, politicians from different levels of government will appear on CBC’s Test the Nation, including Liberal MPs Justin Trudeau and Martha Hall Findlay. The two had to fill out forms for the show; Hall Findlay had hers returned because she had neglected to provide her IQ. She asked the organizers if Trudeau provided his, and they said yes. So in the IQ box she noted “five per cent higher than Justin Trudeau.”
