Willowdale Facts:

• The community of Willowdale was originally settled by Jacob Cummer, who ran a mill on the nearby Don River.

• In 1855, David Gibson established the area’s first post office, named “Willow Dale” because of the abundance of willow trees in the area.

• Willowdale is the birthplace of former Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson.

• Today, Willowdale is a thriving multicultural community and a fast-growing part of the City of Toronto.

• Over 60% of Willowdale residents are first-generation immigrants, representing a wide variety of cultural groups.

• Approximately 130,000 people reside in the constituency of Willowdale.

• Willowdale is part of the old City of North York and is located in the northern part of the amalgamated City of Toronto.

• Willowdale’s electoral boundaries are Highway 401 to the south, Steeles Avenue to the north and roughly Victoria Park Avenue and Leslie Street to the east, and the Don River, Bathurst Street, and Yonge Street to the west.
